Through our Community Stewardship function – a combination of strategic, high-impact philanthropy, efforts to address immediate needs, and crew-led volunteer and giving programs – we are committed to strengthening our communities. We are looking for a financially savvy and strategic leader with the acumen for philanthropic work to head up our Community Stewardship function. This critical leadership role reports to our Chief Diversity Officer and brings synergy between Vanguard’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion imperative and how Vanguard gives back to our global communities!

Key Responsibilities: 

What you will do:

  • Lead Vanguard's comprehensive, global corporate giving strategy. Responsible for strategy setting, management, execution of programmatic activity, reporting outcomes, and ensuring compliance of the distribution of corporate/employee contributions to charitable organizations
  • Lead Vanguard volunteerism programs and initiatives, including setting strategy for global rollout of programs and systems. Focus on ensuring maximum participation and engagement of employees across the global communities in which Vanguard operates
  • Set goals and gather data on Vanguard corporate responsibility initiatives and their effectiveness across global regions. Provide expert guidance on operations, procurement, employee practices, and other topics directly related to Vanguard's philanthropy and corporate responsibility programming
  • Serves as a key spokesperson and liaison for Vanguard globally to relevant press/media, community partners and leaders, corporate responsibility partners, global employees, and others as needed
  • Develop and executes a robust and comprehensive communication strategy that overarches all of Vanguard's philanthropic/volunteer programs and integrates other corporate responsibility outcomes
  • Design, lead and implement technology infrastructure systems globally to efficiently and cost-effectively administer all of Vanguard's philanthropic and volunteer efforts. Ensure adherence to all local data privacy and risk/compliance regulations
  • Hire, evaluate and retain talent. Set performance standards and review performance. Mentor and develop team members; cultivate a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture
  • Participate in special projects and performs other duties as assigned

  • A financially savvy leader that can manage a complex budget and deploy funds strategically with an eye towards maximizing community impact
  • A collaborative leader with the ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and guide investment in people and systems; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent coalition building skills with an ability to influence and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to effectively communicate Vanguard’s commitment to our communities internally and externally
  • Minimum ten years related work experience, deep involvement in the nonprofit/philanthropy space a plus
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required. Graduate degree a plus
