Day 3 Keynote - Phil Buchanan, CEP - Beyond 2020: Philanthropy’s Role in a New Era

Seventy-two years ago today, we saw the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and though we have made strides towards human rights and the equality it demands, this past year has highlighted how far we still have to go.

The multiple crises affecting the U.S. in 2020 have led to calls for foundations and donors to change their spending levels, shift their approach to working with their grantees, and re-evaluate who and what they fund to prioritize equity. In this wide-ranging conversation, Sidney Hargro, President of Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia will talk with Phil Buchanan, President of the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) to discuss difficult conversations on dismantling systemic racism, fostering racial equity and how bias shows up in our work.  Phil will draw on new research conducted by CEP – slated to be released before year-end – giving attendees a sneak peek of the latest data on how funders have responded to the challenges of 2020 and how we move forward.
