The Census is coming and it counts — in more ways than one.

State and local governments, businesses, nonprofits, and foundations rely on Census data to allocate funding, define where services are delivered, and promote economic development. The count influences congressional representation, political participation, and other fundamentals of community wellbeing and American democracy.

Though a full, fair count is crucial, the Census too often misses people of color, young children, and the rural and urban poor. There are serious issues about access to the Census, hard-to-count people, and new challenges that could hamper participation. Our state and nation have too much at stake for the social sector to stay on the sidelines.

At this Council of New Jersey Grantmakers signature event, national and state experts will raise and answer important questions to help New Jersey’s social sector build the capacity to meet the once-in-a-decade obligation to engage at the deepest level. Conference speakers will include Arturo Vargas of the NALEO Educational Fund, Gary Bass from the Bauman Foundation, Vanita Gupta of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and many more. You can find the full list of speakers and more information about the conference by going to CNJG's website here.
