It’s widely acknowledged that civil society organizations (CSOs) need to do more with data – be it grassroots community organizations using municipal datasets to advocate for the rights of underserved populations or national think tanks curating data hubs to democratize access to critical information. For some CSOs it’s strengthening basic data literacy, while for others it’s developing sophisticated capabilities and high-levels of data maturity. Whatever the case, philanthropies have discovered that grant dollars can help nonprofits get data projects off the ground, but sustaining that work demands a deeper commitment.

What does it take to launch a meaningful data-driven program AND keep them running AND learn from them so that the entire organization continues to derive added value? What does it take to then make those learnings transferable and scalable to other nonprofits tackling a range of social issues? Much more than money. In this panel discussion, CIOs and technology foundation leaders make the case for building infrastructure to enable social change.
