The Stoneleigh Foundation and Philadelphia Health Partnership invite local funders to an upcoming briefing that will spotlight the behavioral health needs of Latine immigrant youth in Philadelphia and elevate the work of local nonprofits that are providing culturally competent, trauma-informed care to this population within a community-based setting.  The briefing will take place on Thursday, January 30 from 11:30-1:30 at the Stoneleigh Foundation’s office. Lunch will be provided.

This funder-only educational session will feature remarks from Stoneleigh Emerging Leader Fellow Eduardo Burgos Quezada, Nationalities Service Center Deputy Director Steven Larín, and youth co-researchers Jorge Reyes and Mon Campo, as well as representatives from Juntos, Mighty Writers El Futuro, and Puentes de Salud.

Over the last two years, Eduardo Quezada has partnered with the Nationalities Service Center and two youth co-researchers on a project entitled Voces Juveniles para la Salud Mental (Youth Voices for Mental Health), which has used participatory research to build the case for deeper investment in the well-being of Philadelphia’s Latine immigrant youth.  The project spotlights the ways in which community-based organizations—including Juntos, Puentes de Salud, and Mighty Writers El Futuro—have filled gaps in the public health and education ecosystem, prevented and mediated the impacts of mental health challenges among Latine immigrant youth, and driven positive youth development.

The final project report, which will be available at the briefing, centers the experiences of Latine immigrant families; offers recommendations for improving services and programming; and lays out a call-to-action for schools, mental health providers, migrant parents, and community organizations to listen to young people and incorporate their recommendations into practice.
