Salem Health and Wellness Foundation will be hosting its next Community Conversation, The Impact of Social Isolation on Seniors, on Friday, on October 11th at Calvary Community Development Corporation/Second Baptist Church at 26 Pennsville-Pedricktown Road, Pedricktown, NJ 08067 from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. Lunch will follow the presentation.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to increased isolation and highlighted the need for social engagement, especially among seniors who live alone. Studies show that without regular contact, people can become depressed, experience physical health issues, and decreased level of mental capacity.

Salem County has over 17,000 seniors, many of whom experience social isolation. This is related to lack of transportation, local health care providers, and formal network of senior centers. This Community Conversation will discuss the health risks associated with social isolation, highlight the opportunities for this vulnerable population, and lift up information about local programs that help keep loneliness at bay. Participants will be welcomed by Assemblyman Dave Bailey and Harvey Saunders, President of Calvary Community Development Corporation.
