Join historian and Harvard Business School Professor Nancy Koehn for a free discussion with Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) President Phil Buchanan on “Leading Courageously in Unparalleled Times,” presented by the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Buchanan and Koehn, hosted by Chronicle of Philanthropy Editor Stacy Palmer, will discuss how nonprofit and foundation leaders can meet the sustained challenges they now face.
As the pandemic grinds on and continues to create uncertainty — both economic and personal —leaders must rise to the occasion as much now as in early 2020. Following more than a year of unprecedented change, difficulty, and strain, how can nonprofit and foundation executives adapt to new circumstances and continue to lead in unsettled times?
Furthermore, as the workplace changes, leaders must meet new expectations of leadership. Since the start of the pandemic, many argue good leadership now requires a more human-centered component than ever before: leaders are expected to care for and tend to those they lead as well as to set an example of measured optimism. What can leaders do to ensure that their staff not only remain healthy and avoid burnout, but thrive, finding agency and dignity in their work?
Buchanan and Koehn will address these issues among other tough tasks facing nonprofit and philanthropic executives right now. Koehn will draw from her current research and her latest book, Forged in Crisis: The Power of Courageous Leadership in Turbulent Times. Join this critical discussion on how to rise to the challenge of this moment.
