Philanthropy has grown explosively in its potential for social influence and creativity. It has many ways to be an effective and generative force for human betterment. With a commitment to equity and a sense of urgency, philanthropy can be catalytic in creating pathways to promising social change. This session will help funders understand all of the contexts in which philanthropy can exert positive influence and which role is best given their goals and capabilities.
During the May 17th session, Philanthropy Network Greater Philanthropy president Christine Robinson will guide participants through five modes and supporting modalities in which philanthropy can effectively promote equity as a foundation for change:
- The catalytic role of philanthropy
Initiating | Accelerating | Leveraging | Collaborating and Partnering | Convening - The conceptualizing role of philanthropy
Analyzing | Defining and Redefining | Focusing | Inventing and Testing - The critical function of philanthropy
Commenting | Approving and Disapproving | Advocating | Gadfly | Serving as Social Conscience - The community-building role of philanthropy
Bonding/Unifying | Balancing | Leading - The financial support functions of philanthropy
Grantmaking | Investment | Insuring | Lending
Using this framework, funders can use their internal power and Philanthropy Network’s generative community of philanthropic leaders to bolster effective and equitable strategies across the region. We only need to be strategic and willing to go the distance.
Please join us to build our collective knowledge and commitment to creating a more equitable region. Members will be invited to showcase their insightful work in future sessions that are aligned with various elements of this framework.
This session is open to Philanthropy Network members.
