Many philanthropic institutions are exploring how to access additional resources in response to the deep seeded racial inequities that permeate most aspects of American society and the devastating effects of COVID-19, which is widening inequality around the globe. Earlier this summer, the Ford Foundation and several other foundations took a novel approach to expand giving in 2020 and beyond: issuing a social bond in the U.S capital markets.

If you are curious about the possibilities of debt financing to increase grantmaking resources, hear from Ford staff for the ins and outs of this approach, including the factors that influenced their decisions as well as specific legal, governance, and investment considerations of their approach.
