Philanthropy 101 is a five-part series that will engage registrants in shared learning opportunities focused on the fundamentals of philanthropic practice in an ever-changing field. This new series, which was designed based on the curriculum developed by Philanthropy New York but adapted for Greater Philadelphia, is intended for regional professionals who have begun working in Philanthropy in the last three years but is open to any members who are interested in the core practices of our field in ever-changing times.

Philanthropy 101 will unfold over five two-hour sessions held on Friday mornings from 10 AM – 12 PM according to the schedule below. The first four sessions will be virtual, and the last session will offer an in-person opportunity for those who can join in person. Registrants will be expected to attend all sessions, as the series is being designed in the cohort model to encourage relationship development in a shared learning environment.

Betsaleel "Bets" Charmelus (he/him) is a skilled facilitator and strategic nonprofit leader with a deep commitment to building strong, interdependent communities. With years of experience guiding organizations and initiatives, Bets brings expertise in nonprofit strategy and human centered facilitation to help people and organizations spark meaningful change. Currently serving as the CEO of ArtistYear and Board Chair of the Stockton Rush Bartol Foundation, Bets' leadership has spanned grassroots advocacy, community-based initiatives, and national organizations, always centering intentionality, intuition and imagination.
As the facilitator for this series, Bets brings a thoughtful, engaging approach that helps participants connect with the material and with one another. His practice is rooted in asking powerful questions, opening space for dialogue, and empowering participants to turn ideas into action.
