On October 15, 2019, a finalized "public charge" rule from the Department of Homeland Security is slated to take effect, altering certain immigrants’ ability to become lawful permanent residents, gain admission into the U.S, and to extend or adjust their status. While the rule is currently being challenged through both litigation and legislation, the prospect of its implementation has already led to widespread fear and confusion among immigrant community members about who would be affected and why, leading some individuals and families to forgo public benefits.
Join us for a presentation by Community Legal Services public benefits attorney Maripat Pileggi on the content of the final rule. If you have already been introduced to the fundamentals of the rule through other venues, we encourage you to invite your partners and colleagues to take advantage of this introductory workshop so that as many allies as possible are prepared to provide affected community members with accurate information and effective guidance. If possible, please RSVP by September 30.
