The long-awaited release of new redistricting data files last week by the U.S. Census Bureau has kick-started the mapping of electoral districts across the country. Community-based groups are mobilizing their constituencies to get involved in this once-a-decade process with high stakes for fair representation and the equal allocation of resources.
Join the Fair Representation in Redistricting initiative for a quarterly funder briefing to learn about what is happening on the redistricting front, including national-state partnerships on data analysis, community organizing, communications and more. The briefing will highlight field strategies and how the funder community can support fair and equitable redistricting.
Background
Building on the philanthropic sector’s work to support an accurate census, many funders have been engaged in supporting the next step: fair redistricting, which is a key component for equitable democratic representation.
A national funder collaborative, Fair Representation in Redistricting (FRR), is supporting a network of national and state-based groups for nonpartisan community organizing, trainings, data analysis, legal advice, communications and other work to center communities in the upcoming redistricting processes taking place across the country. This work is now ramping up with the recent release by the U.S. Census Bureau of new redistricting data files.
FRR, with support from the Funders’ Committee for Civic Participation, will host its next quarterly briefing on September 23rd to provide an update on the latest field strategies, communications research, and how the funder community can support fair and equitable redistricting.
