Wealth—the measure of an individual’s or family’s financial net worth—provides all sorts of opportunities for American families. Strident challenges also provide great opportunities. The statistics around the wealth disparity in the United States are jolting. For example, the Institute for Policy Studies and Prosperity Now report that if all things remain the same, the median African-American household wealth will be zero by 2053. Living Cities, a non-profit dedicated to “improving the economic well-being of low-income people”, commissioned Figure 8 Thinking to conduct a study – Radical Collaboration for Black Wealth Creation – examining philanthropy's role in addressing this disparity.
