Small Funders Community of Practice: Increasing Our Impact Through Operational Efficiencies

As grantmakers striving for a larger impact with limited staffing, the continuous need to streamline management and operations is evident. In response to member interest, we plan to dedicate time to explore questions raised during our in-person gathering last September, such as: 

  • We have historically relied on a lot of volunteer support. Is it time to professionalize more roles? (e.g. grow staff)? (or use outside vendors - who are they?)
  • What percentage of my budget should be dedicated to grants vs. administrative or program costs?
  • How do you figure out work flow when the staff is small but you want to make the most impact?
  • What functions do other small funders outsource? 
  • What are opportunities to create economies of scale/share services among small funders?

 Join us to explore creative strategies in three core areas of operations: 1) grants management 2) managing staff workflow, and 3) finances and budgeting.  Participants will have an opportunity to learn from peers and to share resources and tools with one another.
