Join Philanthropy Network along with the Place-Based, Arts & Culture, and Food Funders for an interactive site visit and tour of Chester’s downtown.
We will see results of the great collaborative work done by funders like the Barred Rock Fund, Barra Foundation, Pennsylvania Humanities Council, and The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. We’ll also talk about our grantmaking practice and what it means to “let go” in order to develop local assets and organizational capacity with – not for – a community.
Artists, entrepreneurs, urban farmers, anchor institutions, and civic leaders will tell the story of their place-led efforts to create spaces where people can learn, validate, and share common interests as they develop social, economic, and environmental assets.
The tour will highlight a variety of topics in a number of locations on the 500 Block of Avenue of the States, including:
- arts education in a theater/dance studio,
- food/sustainability in a gallery space,
- community and youth engagement in a makerspace, and
- impact investing in a coffee shop.
Along the way, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in activities, observe performances and engage in discussions around mission related investing and program related investing with the artists, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, funders and civic leaders who are contributing to the revitalization of the block.
We’ll also have the chance to drop in to visit with artists in new galleries and showrooms opening on the block.
