Join members of Grantmakers of Western PA, Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia, and Pennsylvania Health Funders Collaborative for a unique opportunity to connect with funders from across Pennsylvania who are working on food security and access to fresh foods as part of community public health.
In 2015 and again in 2016, we convened in Philadelphia and then in Pittsburgh to see first-hand some of the most innovative programs and organizations working on food security, food entrepreneurship, and urban agriculture programs, to name just a few. Participating funders heard from some of Pennsylvania’s most knowledgeable experts, policymakers, and key stakeholders across the state.
Pennsylvania food funders will meet again on October 9-10, 2017, this time in mid-state, for two days of site visits and policy discussions. Monday will be devoted to funder-only site visits, during which we will meet with farmers to learn about food production, sustainable agriculture practices, the agricultural workforce, and other challenges specific to rural Pennsylvania (and how those issues affect the urban hubs). Tuesday will be devoted to food policy discussions (such as school meals and SNAP food assistance) during a day of collaborative learning and planning. We will first meet with our advocacy colleagues at the Hunger-Free PA Coalition, learn their policy priorities and work on developing shared goals and tactics. Then we are excited to have the opportunity to discuss food security issues with Teresa Miller, recently named Secretary of the Department of Human Services.
Join us and learn with your colleagues from across the state who are committed to improving Pennsylvania food systems and ensuring that our residents are healthy and hunger-free.
