Reparations Finance Lab, in partnership with Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia, invites you to attend "Turning Intent into Action: Aligning philanthropic capital with equitable intentions" -a virtual workshop on Wednesday July 19th from 10am- 12pm.
We have been introduced to the concept of decolonizing wealth, but what does it actually look like? From foundation sunsetting to mission-aligned investing, and community controlled decision-making models, to giving shuumi, land bequests, and reparation models there are many ways to move from extractive to regenerative practices that lead to rematriation and reparations. Many in the philanthropic sector are poised to go deeper, moving from DEI statements to transformational action, but wonder how to move from agreement to action. This session will highlight how to build the case with language, evidence, and data. Our featured speakers are:
- Edgar Villanueva, Founder and Principal, Decolonizing Wealth Project will discuss the process of decolonizing the sector and telling the story/making the case in the private sector.
- David Scatterday, Managing Partner, Scatterday & Associates - How to apply data (knowing, showing, and telling the story through data); will use examples of models used in work in NY and applicability of tool/process to Philadelphia.
- Enith Williams, Founder and Executive Director, Reparations Finance Lab - Reparations strategy - an approach for the capital markets. And all capital allocators - public, private, philanthropic.
Attendees will leave with an understanding of the case for the philanthropic sector to adopt reparative solutions that decolonize wealth in the sector and will be presented tools to turn intention into action.
