The Philadelphia Children’s Alliance invites you to an insightful discussion in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month: Promoting Family Support and Child Well-Being in Supportive Communities

The Philadelphia Children’s Alliance is the city’s frontline responder to the more than 3,000 allegations of child sexual abuse in Philadelphia every year. PCA is the only agency in this city of 1.6 million equipped to coordinate the investigation, the prosecution, and the treatment of those child sexual abuse cases with compassion and expertise. PCA does this in a co-located partnership with the Philadelphia Police Department, the Philadelphia Department of Human Services, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. We are also a national best standards model, trainer and consultant for agencies throughout the northeastern United States.

This conversation will bring to light some of the key considerations and best thinking around the prevention of child maltreatment, and lay the groundwork for where policy intersects with effective prevention and practice.

Melissa T. Merrick, PhD is President and CEO of Prevent Child Abuse America, the nation’s oldest nonprofit organization dedicated to the primary prevention of child abuse and neglect. She has nearly 20 years of clinical, research, and leadership experience related to the etiology, course, and prevention of child abuse and neglect, including serving as a senior epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control.
