Assessing the performance of a foundation is notoriously challenging. How can funders effectively understand what is and isn’t working in their programmatic efforts? What information should they share with others?

The Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) will be releasing a new report, titled Understanding and Sharing What Works: The State of Foundation Practice, on November 8 that investigates how well foundation CEOs believe they understand what is and isn’t working, how they are developing this understanding, and what they are choosing to share.

Following the release of this research, in this webinar CEP’s Ellie Buteau will discuss key findings of the report and Lowell Weiss of Cascade Philanthropy Advisors, who wrote a series of funder profiles that will accompany the report, will share his broader experience studying this topic with CEP and with Leap of Reason. Then, Melinda Tuan, managing director at Fund for Shared Insight, will interview Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) President Stephen Heintz about RBF’s work over the years to understand what does and doesn’t work in its efforts, and how they think about what information to share — and how to share it.

Speakers:
• Melinda Tuan, Managing Director, Fund for Shared Insight
• Stephen Heintz, President, Rockefeller Brothers Fund
• Ellie Buteau, Vice President, Research, CEP
• Lowell Weiss, President, Cascade Philanthropy Advisors
