Pottstown Play Streets Promotes Community Connection

Thursday, June 8, 2023

News release

POTTSTOWN, Pa. (June 8, 2023)—The first of seven Pottstown Play Streets events is planned for Thursday, June 15, at Pottstown's Maple Street Park. The series will run through August 10 on select Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Now in its second year, the Pottstown Play Streets program is led by the Borough of Pottstown's Department of Parks and Recreation. The program will temporarily close streets to traffic in Pottstown neighborhoods and provide play equipment to create safe, fun, and healthy spaces for children, families, and neighbors to connect and play right outside their doors.

Building on the success of last year’s series, which was recognized with the Excellence in Recreation and Parks Award from the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, the Play Streets Coalition will host seven events throughout the summer. The dates and locations are: June 15 at Maple Street Park, June 22 at Pottstown Middle School field, June 29 at Cherry Street Park, July 13 at Barth Elementary School field, July 20 at Washington/West Park, July 27 at Chestnut Street Park, and August 10 at Spruce Street Park. The public will be notified of any cancellations through the Pottstown Parks and Recreation Facebook page by 3:30 p.m. the day of the event.

Pottstown Play Streets Coalition members include: ACLAMO, Be ReZilient, Healing Through The Arts, Borough of Pottstown Parks and Recreation Department, Community Health & Dental Care, Family Services of Montgomery County, Foundation Church, Genesis Housing Corp., Greater Pottstown Tennis & Learning, Health Partner Plans, Montgomery County Community College, Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, Pottstown Children's Discovery Center, Pottstown Community Action, Pottstown Community Arts, Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities, Pottstown Hospital - Tower Health, Pottstown Trauma Informed Community Connection, Rahab's Hope, The JT Dorsey Foundation, The STRIVE Initiative, Traces of Love Association, Trellis for Tomorrow, and YWCA Tri-County Area.
