Have you ever wondered about the real impact of so-called “windfall” gifts – the largely unrestricted grants that sometimes equal or exceed the annual operating budget of the nonprofit in question?

Until the past decade, the incidence of these large unrestricted gifts was rare and those that were made went largely to already large and well-funded institutions; thus, we had little opportunity to relate to and learn from the nonprofit spending decisions that followed the awarding of them. However, with the emergence of the philanthropy of MacKenzie Scott and a few exceptional private foundations, there have been many more large, unrestricted grants awarded to more modestly sized nonprofits and this allows us all to learn from the way those dollars were spent. This information is highly revealing and will help nonprofits begin to navigate away from the scarcity budgets we have all become so accustomed to.

Join this webinar to learn:

  • The details on how hundreds of nonprofits have spent “windfall” grants of unexpected millions;
  • What do those findings reveal about any chronic issues in your nonprofit budgets;
  • What to do to address those chronic issues even without a “windfall” grant;
  • Why does the nonprofit sector need to stop looking at these grants as windfalls, and what must we do to fix our own expectations and funder behavior?

John McIntosh of Sea Change Capital Partners will guide this 90-minute webinar. Representatives from recipient organizations will discuss their experiences receiving and using windfall grants.
