Join the Chester County Funders' Group on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at West Chester University Graduate Center; 1160 McDermott Drive, West Chester, PA for an informative discussion with Joy Dvornicich, U.S. Census Bureau Specialist, a representative of the Chester County Planning Commission. You will learn key aspects to successfully launch a 2020 Complete Count and hear first-hand steps being taken in Chester County to ensure an accurate count.
Our nation gets just one chance each decade to count its population and in 2020 the next U.S. Census will take place to count every resident in the United States. The upcoming 2020 Census will require counting an increasingly diverse and growing population with special emphasis on hard to reach groups.
“The 'hard to reach' may include drug users, people living with HIV, people from sexual minority communities, asylum seekers, refugees, people from black and ethnic minority communities, and homeless people although defining the notion of the 'hard to reach' is not straight forward.” (US National Library of Medicine/National Institute of Health)
Getting an accurate count is critical in determining the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives (a process called apportionment) and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities.
