Research for Action (RFA) and McClanahan Associates, Inc (MAI) have recently published a report on the early implementation of the Youth Arts Initiative - an effort funded by the Wallace Foundation to explore whether a youth development organization like the Boys & Girls Clubs can implement a "high quality" arts program based on principles derived from community arts organizations. The goal of the iniative is to expand access to high quality arts experiences from low- income youth.

In conjunction with Philadelphia's Citywide OST Initiative, funders are invited to be part of a discussion about the success and challenges of high quality after school arts initiatives, and to identify the conditions necessary for similar efforts to thrive in Philadelphia.

The event will feature Tracey Hartmann, Senior Research Associate at RFA and Wendy McClanahan, President/CEO of MAI, who will discuss their report, Raising the Barre and Stretching the Canvas.

The program will also feature a panel of local artists and providers, including:

  • Valerie Gay, Executive Director of the Arts Sanctuary (Moderator)
  • Justin Ennis, Executive Director of After-School Activities Partnership
  • Barbara Wong, Director of Engagement for the Barnes Foundation
  • Thoai Nguyen, Chief Executive Officer of SEAMAAC
