Press release ia NBME

To further philanthropic efforts in medical education and health care, NBME has named its inaugural Philanthropy Director, Allison Anderson Acevedo. In her new position, Allison will play a key role in leading the strategic plan for NBME’s current and developing philanthropic programs, including expanding efforts to support marginalized students.

Allison’s new role complements her seasoned career in public service, as well as her professional and personal commitment to community engagement, namely building partnerships to improve outcomes in traditionally under-resourced communities.

“Allison’s philanthropic and community engagement experience, as well as her deep roots in the Philadelphia area, make her an excellent inaugural Philanthropy Director for NBME. I’m really excited to see the impact Allison’s strategic insights will have on our developing philanthropic vision,” Linda Gadsby, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer, said. “We’re fortunate to have Allison as a part of our NBME and Office of General Counsel and Organizational Affairs team.”

In her most recent position, Allison served as the Director of the Office of Environmental Justice for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, where she worked to support communities adversely impacted by environmental harms and climate change. She also served as the Director of Education for the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. Allison’s community engagement includes being a founding member of the Philadelphia Black Giving Circle, as well as serving as a board member of Mom Your Business, an organization that helps Black and Brown female entrepreneurs achieve business growth.

“I am truly excited for the opportunity to be the inaugural Philanthropy Director at NBME. I look forward to building on existing philanthropic initiatives to carry out impactful equity-centered philanthropy,” Allison says.

Allison earned her JD and LLM from Temple University Beasley School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Swarthmore College. In addition, she holds a Certified Climate Change Professional® credential from the Association of Climate Change Officers.
