Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia (Philanthropy Network) has launched a field scan to learn more about the state of philanthropic practices in our region. Through a grant from the William Penn Foundation, we’ve partnered with Equal Measure – a local firm with extensive experience in evaluation and learning and a dedicated focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion – to administer a confidential survey to funders in order to get a more comprehensive picture of philanthropic practice in general, and specifically as it relates to considerations of equity.
With the full understanding that our members are at varying stages of thinking about equity, we have invited them to participate in this study regardless of where their organization stands on issues of equity.
We are asking members to participate in two different surveys:
- An organizational survey to share approaches and practices around grantmaking, investments, and operations, to be completed by an executive level staff person with a broad view of these areas.
- A brief staff and board survey to capture, at a regional level, the diversity and demographic characteristics of the philanthropic sector.
These surveys will produce membership baseline measures and help us learn more about our sector. We view this field scan as a collaborative project among the membership, and we hope to achieve full participation. Responses will be confidential and aggregated with other responses by Equal Measure. A report will be written at the conclusion of this scan, and survey findings will be shared after a thorough analysis of the responses.
The deadline to complete the organizational survey and staff/board survey has been extended until June 10. Members with questions about the survey should contact Laiyi Wei at Equal Measure via email to: lwei@Equalmeasure.org.
We are extremely grateful to our members for their participation and valued insights.
The field scan is a component of Philanthropy Network’s comprehensive Equity in Philanthropy initiative, which is made possible with the support of the William Penn Foundation and the Samuel S. Fels Fund and led by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee.
