The Nelson Foundation is excited to announce that our Board of Directors has awarded the 2024 Core Grants as well as several Change Champions, and Grace Nelson Awards. All core grants are three-year general operating awards in the amount of $60,000. The process was highly competitive, and all applicants demonstrated dedication to their mission and are making a positive impact for young people and the communities in which they live. This year’s eleven core grant recipients are: 12+, Big Picture Alliance, Chester Education Foundation, Collective Climb, Lift Every Voice Philly, Ordinarie Heroes, Parkesburg Point Youth Center, Philadelphia City Rowing, Project 440, We REIGN Inc, and Youth Art & Self-empowerment Project.
Additionally, four organizations received the very first grants of the Change Champions grant program, a new grant program piloted as an invitation-only initiative in 2024, to support organizations doing work in advocacy, policy, and/or systems change work in the areas of fair funding for public schools, creating a diverse pipeline of teachers, and protecting the rights of voters in our democracy. The inaugural recipients of the one-year General Operating grants in the amount of $12,500 are: Public Interest Law Center, Children First (formerly PCCY), Education Law Center, and Mad Beatz Philly.
We are also pleased to announce the recipients of the Grace Nelson Awards and the President’s Fund grants:
- Grace Nelson Awards: Norris Square Neighborhood Project ($10,000) and Trellis for Tomorrow ($5,000).
- President’s Fund grants: Greater Philadelphia Extracurricular Collaborative ($10,000) and Kensington Community Resilience Fund ($10,000).
