Members of Philanthropy Network are cordially invited to attend the next episode of “Chat with an Expert,” an initiative of Walls Torres Group. In partnership with Philanthropy Network’s Equity in Philanthropy Cohort programming, this episode is now being made available to the full membership.
The series curator Daria Torres will welcome Daryn Dodson as the featured guest expert. Daryn is the Founder and Managing Director of Illumen Capital and he will share lessons learned from his firm’s experience coaching fund managers on implicit racial and gender bias reduction, as well as insights from a recent paper they published in collaboration with Stanford University that reveals how racial bias influences investment decisions. For those of you interested in impact investing and/or the extent to which your financial portfolio is mission-aligned, this will be an amazing opportunity.
As pre-reading, we recommend reviewing the resources linked below, which include an article about the research and the original paper published in August 2019 in the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences.
- Pensions & Investments: It's racial bias, not merely an issue of access by Danielle Walker
- Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences (PNAS): Race influences professional investors’ financial judgments by Sarah Lyons-Padilla, Hazel Rose Markusa, Ashby Monk, Sid Radhakrishna, Radhika Shah, Norris A. “Daryn” Dodson IV, and Jennifer L. Eberhardt
